OAK development puts artistic brilliance on display

When Dallas-based artists Brad Oldham and Christy Coltrin first visited the site of Oklahoma City’s ambitious OAK development near Penn Square Mall, they saw nothing but dirt and underground pipes.
But where others might have seen empty space, they envisioned a unique artistic celebration of Oklahoma’s dynamic relationship between earth and sky.
“Our inspiration really came from how the sky and the earth work together in Oklahoma City,” said Coltrin, half of the husband-and-wife artistic team that own the Brad Oldham Sculpture studio in Dallas. “It feels like the sky’s bigger up there. The Earth goes really deep. There’s a really dynamic sort of life-giving, life-taking relationship.”
The result of their vision is a series of interconnected public art installations anchored by “Cloud Trees,” a functional sculpture that serves as both standalone art and a backdrop for community events in Heartwood Park at OAK.
