OKC boasts 10th-lowest unemployment rate in the U.S.

For February, the Oklahoma City MSA saw an unemployment rate of just 2.9%. This was a slight improvement over the last month’s rate and represented the 10th-lowest rate in the U.S., among major metros. The Bureau of Labor Statistics classifies MSAs with more than one million in population as a major metro.

For comparison, Las Vegas had the highest unemployment rate among major metros at 6%. Birmingham, Ala., had the lowest rate in the U.S. at 2.2%.

Statewide, the unemployment rate came in at 3%. This also represents a slight improvement over the previous month. In total, 46 of Oklahoma’s 77 counties saw lower unemployment rates compared to this time last year. The national rate increased from 3.4% to 3.6%.
