More than $200 million going into creating a new skyline in Midtown Oklahoma City

More than $200 million in new construction and historic building renovations is set to begin this year in Midtown as the community once feared dead two decades ago emerges with a new skyline.
The downtown neighborhood almost lost its largest employer, St. Anthony Hospital, in 2003 when it was surrounded by boarded-up homes, a crime-ridden motel and darkened storefronts that included the iconic Plaza Court.
Marva Ellard was among the earliest to appreciate Midtown’s potential when she bought a dilapidated former hotel, the Sieber, in 1998 with plans to restore it into apartments.
“There wasn’t a lot going on,” Ellard said. “The old Mercy hospital was still standing. There had been quite a bit of demolition and cleanup after the Murrah bombing. It was sad. There were a lot of vacant buildings.”
