Oklahoma City has so many interesting and vibrant shopping and entertainment districts, it may be difficult to decide which one you are going to visit first! Why not begin your district tour by visiting the Uptown 23rd district? This corridor has quickly become a favorite among varying age groups and is lined with an array of restaurants, shops and service providers – most locally owned. Uptown 23rd is located on NW 23rd between Broadway Ave. and Pennsylvania Ave. along the historic Route 66 corridor, where you will recognize famous 66 iconic landmarks such as the Gold Dome, the Milk Bottle building and the venerable Tower Theatre where live music still emanates from its hallowed halls.

Kendall Bleakley, interim district manager for the Uptown 23rd District Association, whose mission is to support and promote a wide variety of Uptown businesses, said they cannot do it alone without the community’s help and support.

“Uptown 23rd is a growing business and entertainment district that relies on community involvement to support the local businesses that make Uptown 23rd unique. It's now more important than ever to support Uptown 23rd businesses as the city begins their street enhancement plans,” Bleakley said.

If your tummy is growling and screaming, “Feed me, I’m hungry!” there are numerous first-rate restaurants lining NW 23rd from west to east that will satisfy virtually any food craving. For a casual dining experience, try places like Big Truck Tacos, Hunny Bunny Biscuit Co. or Pizzeria Gusto, as well as Tucker’s Onion Burgers, Ted’s Tacos and Cantina and others. For more upscale fare, try Cheever’s Café. For those who need their morning fix of caffeine, or just a place to hang out with friends, check out Cuppies and Joe. Classen Coffee Co. is another great option.

There are also great places – during the day and night – that offer up some good food and good brew. The Pump Bar with its popular outside patio area, The Bunker Club, Chick N Beer and Guyutes, which boasts one of the first rooftop patios in Oklahoma City, are a few of the favorite local hangouts within the Uptown 23rd District.

Restaurants and bars aren’t the only types of businesses you will find in the Uptown 23rd District. Throughout the area, there are numerous shops and attractions that can’t wait to greet you with a warm hello. Spas, boutiques, medical service providers and other entities are there to provide you with top-notch, quality products and services. Oklahoma City University, a top liberal arts and sciences university, is also located here.

There are even some recent additions to the district that are becoming popular get-aways for people searching for something different to do or experience. For those of you who enjoy escape rooms and think you are good sleuths, The Escape OKC is right up your alley! You and your friends or co-workers are placed in a “locked” room together and tasked with solving a mystery before the clock runs out. For those longing for a sports fix, Oklahoma City’s professional soccer club Energy FC plays right down the street at Taft Stadium.
