Getting Started
First Friday brings fresh faces, seasoned art veterans to the Paseo
First Fridays in the Paseo District are a staple in the cultural landscape of OKC. For years now, on the first Friday of each month, the Paseo has invited all of OKC to stroll its charming meandering street lined with picturesque Spanish revival architecture. The quaint beauty of its street is not the only draw, in fact, the Paseo is more recognized for its artists, galleries, vendors and restaurants than the significance of their distinct contribution to OKC architecture. Many of us have absorbed visiting the Paseo on First Fridays into our rituals and rhythms of life.
At the heart of First Friday, one finds the Paseo Arts Association (PAA) among those whose efforts are the pulse of the community itself. With their new Paseo Arts and Creativity Center (PACC) and its dual galleries, the PAA can afford a more enriching experience through exhibiting a variety of shows contiguously. The February First Friday brings creative veterans as well as some new faces to the Paseo through its showing of the Paseo Members Show and the impactful exhibition entitled "Melanin Stories," presented by Poetic City.
The Paseo Members Show showcases the works of PAA members. This juried exhibition gives the opportunity to new artists to show side by side with established veteran OKC art greats. Each year the show demonstrates the diversity and sheer talent of over forty local artists. It is a great celebration of art and the next-door-visionaries that create it.
