Former Swanson’s Tire in Midtown Oklahoma City expected to house restaurant, bar, bank and retail
Andy Burnett was a regular customer at the Swanson's Tire Co. in Midtown, but when the business closed last year, Burnett had no vision for how it could be redeveloped.
Now, as renovations are wrapping up, the prominent downtown developer admits he had it all wrong when he was first approached by business partner Jeff Johnson.
“I got my oil changed here a long time and I never thought anything of it,” Burnett said. “Jeff Johnson was the one who had the idea, called me and he already had it under contract. He asked, ‘What do you think?' I told him he was crazy, it made no sense. ‘Looking at those buildings, I don't see it. I'm out.' ”
Next month, the 25,000-square-foot building will open to the public as its first tenant, Barrios Fine Mexican Dishes, starts up on Nov. 2. Other tenant deals in the former tire shop include a Midtown branch for Citizens Bank of Edmond, two more restaurants, a bar and retail store.
