$2.5 million building permit filed for Gold Dome conversion into a Natural Grocers

Redevelopment of the Gold Dome at NW 23 and Classen into a Natural Grocers is moving closer to a start date following the application this week for a $2.5 million building permit from the city.

Representatives of Natural Grocers could not be reached on Tuesday. 

Jonathan Russell, developer of The Rise at NW 23 and Walker Avenue, bought the Gold Dome in May 2015 after a series of failed redevelopment efforts and demolition threats.

“The building permit is one of our last hurdles,” Russell said Tuesday. “Once that's in hand, we'll be moving forward.”

When the Gold Dome was built in 1958, the two-story building with the familiar round anodized aluminum geodesic roof was touted by Citizens Bank as “the bank of tomorrow.”
